We let our cats get on our furniture. We have durable stuff. . .to a point. . .Our cats are always permitted to get on our chairs, even upholstered ones. One has a polartec cover on an upholstered chair, and one is upholstered. Somehow our cats just scratch them. We have hardwood floors, so no carpets to scratch. A scratching post is another option, and our cats love theirs.
