Homecoming

We have different ways of greeting Human Mommy when she returns home after a prolonged, unauthorized absence.

A large dilute tortoiseshell cat sits in a doorway to the outside and looks over her shoulder at the photographer. She looks displeased.

The Woofies throw her a party, bestowing kisses and cuddles and licks as if they’re happy to see her.

Two dogs, one big black one to the left and a little yellow guy to the right, jump on a woman seated on a couch. It is a flurry of wags and licks, a veritable celebration.

It’s kind of pathetic.

The little yellow dog lies blissed out on the couch. He is receiving a tummy rub from the human woman. His expression conveys a level of joy that we would all be happy to receive even once in this life. Let’s call it tummy rub nirvana.

We Cats, on the other Paw, pointedly ignore her, regardless of how often she trills our names or makes kissy-kissy noises in our direction.

Back to the dilute tortoiseshell cat. She has turned away from the photographer and is utterly ignoring the person behind. Does she want to go outside? No, she wants to make you feel bad for leaving her.

This is Cold Tail, arctic in fact, and it’s exactly what Human Mommy deserves.

  1. You cats are so cool and funny! Love your stance on Human mommy’s deserting you. She should stay there with you all day, every day, shouldn’t she? Well, someone does have to go get you all food.
