It’s okay to abandon your starter box for a bigger, better box when one becomes available. Your original box won’t be sad, as cardboard has no feelings.
Your cats don’t want a bunch of boxes because they think cardboard us sentient; they need multiple boxes in order to have choices. Some boxes may be morning boxes, some boxes may be evening boxes, some boxes may be for play and some boxes may be for naps. Don’t worry if you trip over your cats’ boxes occasionally. If the boxes are inhabited by your cats when your trip, your cats will hiss and/or scream and/or claw and/or bite in order to train you to be more careful of their residences.
I wish I could convince my cats of that so I wouldn’t have so many boxes to trip over.

What is the dog doing? Jealous of your lovely cardboard box?

The hound is standing on his back feet to make himself taller. The hound does not understand–tall is good, but claws are better.
